Online Training on Hydroponics and Climate Change Held

Hydroponics is a form of gardening which grows plants in a solution of water and nutrients. Hydroponics is a promising farming technology which is worthy to be shared among local farmers and extension workers, since it has the potential to eliminate the many limitations seen in traditional crop production.
For this particular online training, thirty participants composed of 18 Learning Site for Agriculture (LSAs) and 12 AEWs participated virtually on the three-day Training on DIY Hydroponics: Alternative to Soil Gardening.

Speakers include Mr. Johnny L. Mangcawan, Community Development Assistant II of Bukidnon Environment & Natural Resources Office-Bukidnon who shared his expertise on Climate Change Impact, Mitigation, and Resilient Farming. While Mr. Estelito C. Bebit Jr., Hydroponics Practitioner/School Instructor, and Jacinto D. Malimas Sr. National High School Odiongan, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental shared Hydroponics farming technology as well as the making of the nutrient solution that is applicable to those who want to engage into hydroponics.

The participants were expected to apply and share their knowledge and establish a hydroponics garden in their respective homes. Participatory lecture-discussion (online) and video demonstration was shown to better appreciate the topics presented.

Graduates of the said training will receive training starter kits consisting of Hydroponics Styrofoam Grow box, Hydroponics Styrofoam Cups and Hydroponics Solution A and B, 350ml each as announced during its training proper on August 25-27, 2021 via online zoom platform. The kit will help them jumpstart their hydroponics venture and apply what they have learned during the said online training. (with reports from Training Specialist II Moisa Niña C. Paglinawan)
