Training on Sloping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT) and Stingless Beekeeping Held

Medina, MISAMIS ORIENTAL---To intensify support for the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), a 3rd Phase training was conducted recently to some training participants of Sitio Kabul-Kabul, based on the result of Phase 2 training on Farm Planning, Designing and Recordkeeping conducted last May 25-27, 2021.

The provision of training on Sloping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT) was necessary because 90 percent of the land in Sitio Kabol-kabol is sloping, all participants are growing crops in sloping areas without using proper contouring, and the assigned Municipal Agriculturist staff were not familiar with SALT.

During the training proper, the participants were able to perform and establish contour lines using the A and T frame during the hands-on practicum and were able to plant seeds of rensoni and flamengia plant along the contour lines.

Meanwhile, the conduct of Training on Stingless Beekeeping was also identified because as per inspection, most households already have “kiyot” colonies in their households but are not being utilized, stingless beekeeping is a passive income source, and a buy Back scheme is effective and has a positive impact in the beekeeping communities.

With the conduct of the two trainings, a total of 22 IP farmers/leaders graduated from the said event. In her message during the closing program , Partnership and Accreditation Services (PAS) Chief Anita L. Molijon encouraged the graduates to share the knowledge learned and the skills developed during the three batches of Training on Social Preparation and Organic Farm Inputs on Mar. 16-19, 2021; Farm Planning, Designing and Record Keeping on May 25-27, 2021 and the Training on SALT and Stingless Beekeeping on Nov, 24-26, 2021 respectively. They were also reminded to continuously practice and adopt what they have learned and also share the knowledge and skills to their co-farmers.

As per agreement, GreenMinds Incorporated will buy-back the honey and other by-products of the bees.

The participants extended their gratitude to the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center X, GreenMinds Incorported, LGU-Medina and the 58th IB for identifying Sitio Kabul-kabul as top priority on their list for the ELCAC. Thus the 3 trainings mentioned above were conducted through the efforts and full support of the partner agencies.

The graduates, together with the Barangay officials of Mananum Daan, Medina, Misamis Oriental have high hopes that ATI, along with GreenMinds Incorporated and other ELCAC partners will always extend support as they continue to develop their farms specially in the process of fulfilling their dreams for one area in KabulKabul to become an Agro-Tourism Destination.

The center provided post training support which include bee veil, TPH boxes, bee hives, level bar, seedlings for contour, gloves and hammer. Also, the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro City represented by Mr. Reynaldo G. Lomarda handed seedling of mulberries, shovel, TPH bee boxes, bee veil as additional extension support to the graduates.

The aforementioned trainings transpired on November 24-26, 2021 at Sitio Kabul-Kabul, Mananum Daan, Medina, Misamis Oriental (submitted by Development Management Officer I Jisa T.Dulay and PAS Chief Anita L. Molijon)
