Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental---With the intent to create awareness on the roles of the LGUs in the implementation of the National Organic Agriculture Program (NOAP) under the Republic Act no. 10068, otherwise known as “Organic Agriculture Act of 2010”, a consultative meeting and retooling on Organic Agriculture (OA) for Provincial Local Technical Committee was held recently.
The activity was attended by 30 participants composing of city/municipal councilors, Municipal Organic Agriculture Focal Persons, farmers and other members of the Organic Agriculture (OA) Provincial Technical Working Group (PTWG).
Mr. Sanivier G. Patoc, Cluster Head DILG of Misamis Occidental, discussed the DILG and DA joint memorandum circular (2019: 1701) or the roles of the LGUs in the implementation of the National Organic Agriculture Program under the Republic Act no. 10068, otherwise known as “Organic Agriculture Act of 2010”.
Mr. Patoc said it is high time to support in the implementation of the Organic Agriculture Act of 2010, all Local Government Units are required to do Organic Agriculture. In order to materialize, it is needed to create a Provincial Local Technical Committee as stated in the law but he proposed instead for the creation of Provincial Executive Committee because it is composed of the Provincial Governor as the Chair, vice-chair the Provincial Agriculturist, members will be the SB Member Committee on Agriculture and head of Offices such as DTI, DOST, PAFC, DILG, DepEd, PARO, 3 representative from Small farmers, 1 representative from NGO with activities/involvement in OA for at least 3 years and etc.
Moreover, the activity aimed to enhance the knowledge of the participants on Organic Agriculture; recognize the importance of Local Technical Committee in each locality; recognize the importance of being a member in the League of Organic Municipalities/Cities/Provinces (LOAMC-P); and enhance their knowledge on the importance of the OAP in the Seal of Good Local Governance.
