SINACABAN, Misamis Occidental- The members of the ATI-RTC X Technical Working Group evaluated three farms in Sinacaban and two farms in Jimenez as potential Learning Sites. Two of the farmers in Sinacaban are also nominated as Magsasaka Siyentista for their FITS Center.
The two farmers nominated are Mr. Evert Jan Robberts of Sinacaban Eco-Farm and Hon. Libby Apao of Libby’s IDOF. Both farms are organic agriculture practitioners. Another farm which has strong potential for Farm Tourism is Reducto’s Garden, owned by Hon. Wilfredo Reducto. Reducto’s Garden is a diversified farm with two training halls, various cottages for training and other events.
In Jimenez, Misamis Occidental, the group visited the farm of Nanay Carmen, a 71 y.o. mother of 12. The farm which is producing organic vegetables and livestock is very impressive despite being maintained solely by a Senior Citizen. The garden of her daughter beside their house is also impressive. They are planted to vegetables and in fact, the daughter was awarded by the DSWD as a model 4P beneficiary.
Lastly, the D&P Farm owned by Hon. Palangan was visited. Mr. Palangan is the President of the Cacao growers in Jimenez. His farm though diversified, is cacao and swine based.
