Training on Livestock, Poultry and Veggie Production Held

SITIO LOOC, Barangay Canitoan, Cagayan de Oro City---In a deliberate move to help improve the production of livestock, poultry and vegetables in Barangay Canitoan, Cagayan de Oro City, a 3-day simultaneous Training on Livestock, Poultry and Vegetable Production was conducted on August 8 -10, 2018 at the aforementioned venue.

The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center X (ATI-RTC X) through the Career Development and Management Services Section (CDMS) came up with a scheme to further strengthen the promotion of government programs as well as reinforcing the country’s food security efforts.

The training was mounted in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) as per request of the LOOC Farmers’ Association through a letter sent to the DA Secretary which was then forwarded to ATI and DA-RFO 10. ATI will conduct the training with garden tools as post-training support while the DA-RFO 10 will give livestock as post training support. Dr. Perla T. Asis (CVO-CDO) and Mr. Joseph Borja (CAO -CDO) served as Resource Persons (RPs).

For its part, the ATI pledged to continue to conduct activities towards enhancing the knowledge and skills of livestock and poultry raisers. Raising all-natural livestock and poultry products is now becoming popular due to government programs that promote production of meat and eggs that are safe and healthy for the general consumers. It is a production system wherein the livestock are raised in a stress-free environment, allowing constant access outdoors to have a natural diet of grains, forages, and insects with plenty of fresh air and sunlight.

Before the training proper, a field validation and a meeting with the Barangay Council of Looc with its Indigenous Peoples transpired last March 16, 2018 with Asec. Enrico Garzon, ITCPH-Director Dr. Ruth Miclat-Sonaco, ATI-RTC X OIC-Center Director Maria Lydia A. Echavez and RFO Livestock Focal Ms. Malou Sypiecco in attendance.

A total of 30 participants attended the training composing of farmers from Sitio Looc, Barangay Canitoan. Livestock Focal Person Aleli Jean A. Paulican was at the helm of the training in terms of organizing and facilitating the event. The said training also intends to prepare the recipients of livestock to be given later as scheduled at the same time enhance their learnings as training participants.
