More Productivity thru GAP Corn-based Farming in Malaybalay City

MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon--- The corn industry continuously strive for greater quality and productivity in Bukidnon. Thus, the urge to shift from mono-cropping to farm diversification has been a long netted advocacy in areas where low productivity are commonly felt in the province.

The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center – X (ATI-RTC X) as it continuously bridge the gap of farm technologies thru the extension interventions conducted its second batch of the activity “ Gearing
Training on Good Agricultural Practices: Training on Corn-based Farming System” .

The training was joined and participated by 30 participants composed of farmers and Agricultural Extension Workers(AEWs) from the different barangays of Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

The activity introduced corn-based farming system highlighting farm diversification. The system is designed to maximize land use and integrating aqua, crops, livestock and poultry and all possible farm components that could work together to a more convenient and profitable way of corn farming.

Also, the modules included Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) principle to help minimize feed borne disease in animals and a safer food products for the consumers. It will also help farmers stan dardized quality of their produced and keeping up with market demands.

The three-day activity was a request of the Local Government Unit of Malaybalay City, Bukidnon. It was held on June 5-7, 2019 at Veranda, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon( With reports from Noriel Kris Santillan).
