ATI 10 trains Tubod Corn Farmers on GAP, Farm Diversification

Tubod, LANAO DEL NORTE---From monocropping to diversified farming and traditional practices to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), these systems and approaches in farming were being advocated by the Department of Agriculture (DA) over the years with high hopes that it would help in boosting productivity and improve profitability of marginalized farmers.

The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center X (ATI-RTC X) being the lead agency for extension and education in the region conducted the Training on Good Agricultural Practices on Corn-based Farming System. The training was participated by 30 Agriculture Extension Workers (AEWs) and corn farmers from the different barangays of Tubod, Lanao del Norte.

The training aims to capacitate corn farmers and AEWs to a much safer, healthier farming practices and a more productive farming system. The training introduced the participants to diversified farming, its concept, underlying values and advantages to environment, the farm and the farmer. Its discussions were focused on the different means of maximizing the use of their farm areas through the integration of other crops, inland fishery, poultry and livestock.

A lecture on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for corn and diversified farming and agri-enterprise development were also delivered and presented to them to ensure farm sustainability and market competitiveness of their products.

The said training was held on April 10-12, 2019 at the Provincial Agriculture Office –Farmers Learning Center, Tubod, Lanao del Norte( With reports from Noriel Kris Santillan).
