BARANGAY BAYLAO, MAMBAJAO, CAMIGUIN. Fifty seedling of Ipil beach trees are planted by the 4-H Club delegates to the 5th Regional 4-H Club Youth Camp, held at the Camiguin Convention Center, Mambajao, Camiguin Province. The beach tree planting is one of the highlights of the three-day gathering of young advocates of agriculture and farm business.
With the theme Live.Farm.Love, the tree planting is a manifestation of preparing the seashore for future tourism area. The planting area is a preserved seashore land protected by the barangay government of Baylao, with the assistance from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources. Mr. Philip Penalosa, barangay Captain of Baylao in his short message expressed his thanks to the delegates for choosing his barangay as the venue for the beach tree planting. He said the trees, when they will grow, will help protect the Pawikan or the Hawksbill sea turtles since the particular place is their breeding area. With the egg hatchery established by the DENR, the barangay people gather the turtles’ eggs that they often accidentally find in the area and bring them to the hatchery. He also assured them that the barangay people will help in taking care of the newly planted trees. ( with reports from IRISH JEAN M. RABOT, Sixto A. Abao National High School, Mambajao, Camiguin).
