Lantapan, BUKIDNON--- Quality planting materials is the start-up investment of a farmer, and a healthy planting material is the foundation of a successful farming.
Committed to help farmers produce quality harvest through quality planting materials, the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center X (ATI-RTC X) conducted a the Skills Training on Nursery Establishment and Management.
There are 28 participants who have participated in the three-day activity. They are composed of Agriculture Extension Workers, Farmer Leaders and nursery propagators from the different municipalities in Bukidnon.
The training aims to help technicians, and farmers to establish local small-scale nurseries through the right propagation techniques and by ensuring the production of high quality seedlings, providing farmers with better opportunities, and assured productivity.
There were Lectures and discussion on introduced various techniques and practices in nursery establishment and management. It oriented the participants on nursery accreditation requirements, policies , as well on planting material certification. All that are necessary to bring farmers into the higher level of nursery establishment and management. Quality discussion was made possible through the expertise of Mr. Virgilio Loquias of the Bureau of Plant Industry.
Furthermore, the activity was graced by a successful farmer and an experienced seedling contractor in Bukidnon, Mr. Henry S. Binahon. Mr. Binahon is the owner of t BAFF, a learning of ATI in the region. Further, he is also a Magsasaka Siyentista (MS) in the region, as well as a National President to the MS Association. His shared vision, and principles in farming and in her venture in seedling have been a good input for participants to realize and discover opportunities.
The activity was held on March 7-9, 2018 at Binahon Agroforestry Farm (BAFF) , Lantapan, Bukidnon ( from the reports of Moisa Nina Catiil).
