Food Safety and Nutrition underscored in 85th RIC National Convention

Poblacion District, Davao City---Gathering the Rural Improvement Club (RIC) members and movers across the regions, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) conducted a series of capacity enhancement training programs for the regional presidents of the said organization. The pertinent role of rural-based organizations in boosting community advancement is continuously recognized in the agriculture and fisheries sector.

Rural Improvement Clubs of the Philippines (RIC) is a nationwide non-government organization in the Philippines which is rural or barangay-based, uplifting the living standard of its members and making them effective and productive partners of the government in community development. It is initially supported by the Local Government Unit (LGU) and the Department of Agriculture.

For this particular training, 31 RIC women-leaders focused on food safety and nutrition information. By enhancing their knowledge and skills on handling food items and the many benefits of nutrition in one’s well-being, the three-day activity further empowered them in terms of seeing themselves as leaders and agripreneurs. Specifically, discussions and workshops on food safety and food nutrition were conducted during the training course.

The 85th Rural Improvement Club National Convention intended to (1.) gain timely, relevant and useful knowledge about food safety and food nutrition, (2.) inquire insights on the adopted methods and strategies by presentation of best and unique practices of RIC members through success stories and various developmental activities and to (3.) address issues and concerns arising within the organization in the aspects of organizational development and management and to plan RIC activities for the upcoming year.
