Advocacy Seminar on Swine Artificial Insemination Conducted in Tangub City

To promote patronage of Artificial Insemination (AI) in Swine, the ATI-RTC X in partnership with MR. DEGA Farm, a certified Learning Site for Agriculture (LSA) and AI sa Barangay Program recipient, conducted an advocacy seminar to twenty six (26) hog raisers coming from Tangub City, Ozamiz City and nearby municipality of Sinacaban in Misamis Occidental. The activity was conducted on February 2-3, 2022. Another batch is set to be conducted on February 9-10, 2022.

Dr. Reggie Macahilo, owner of the MR. DEGA Farm requested for the activity since very few people availed of the services of their AI Laboratory. She said that there are many misconceptions by raisers about AI. ATI-RTC X then requested from ATI-ITCPH and the National Livestock Program for additional funding to conduct two batches of the same activity.

To promote hog raising as a whole, Dr. Macahilo who is an Animal Science graduate included topics such as: Economics of Pig Farming, Different breeds of swine, Sustainable pig farming, Sow reproductive system, Heat detection aside from a thorough discussion on the advantages of AI. A practicum on AI ensued.

The activity was also attended by Mr. Brylle Joseph Amora of the City Agriculture Office of Tangub who gave updates on ASF and the Swine Industry and Ms. Necifen Cagaanan, organic agriculture Focal Person of the Provincial Agriculture Office of Misamis Occidental who gave tips on the use of Fish Amino Acid and other concoctions that can be used in swine raising. Ms. Noemi Beth Macario, Livestock Focal Person of ATI-RTC X and Ms. Mae Antoinette Nebris conducted the activity at MR DEGA Farm, Purok 1, Manga, Tangub City, Misamis Occidental.
