Selling point

Entice. Mr Webster defines it as to draw on artfully. Its synonyms are lure, charm, attract and persuade. To do it, one must have a unique selling point. This is what many of our Magsasaka Siyentista (MS) do. They innovate to attract and influence.

Listening to our MSs who passionately shared what they did and are doing makes my work more fulfilling. Theirs were stories of greatness, of "plea to praise", of "hurt to heart" and of the common "rags to riches". There were others who were then in the corporate world, now in the farm. They said, "from corporate to cultivate".

They make farming a learn and fun, attracting not just the once young but the young ones hoping the latter would soon engage in farming. But they do not just farm. They tied agriculture with tourism, where the simple life of a farmer becomes the luxury of the rich. Agritourism as a whole is their edge, their selling point.

Their activities are continuous improvement and innovations. Some of their specific selling points are organically produce, zero waste farming, do it yourself (pick, eat and pay), and vertical gardening. These are for the farm. But there is no farm without a farmer.

The farmer must be an agripreneur and agricator. These differentiate them from the common, the rest. It's their selling point. They are farmer-entrepreneurs and farmer-educators. They have the "come-on" for people to come. They have multiple income streams and wholistic view of making the lives of other people better in all aspects. They started with service not with profit, believing that if one does service, he/she gets profit.

Our Magsasaka Siyentistas are recognized because they have unique selling points and continue to find more.
