4th batch of AEWs, operators trained on composting facilities for biodegradable wastes operation

Negros Oriental – On 21 – 23 September 2021, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Regional Training Center (RTC) in Central Visayas conducted the Capacity Enhancement on the Operations of Composting Facilities for Biodegradable Wastes (CFBW) training in partnership with the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM). This training is the fourth batch, among the four batches of training being conducted.

The first two batches were conducted in Bohol (with details here for batch 1 and batch 2) while the third batch was conducted in Cebu (with details here).

The three-day training was held in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental with virtual participants from Siquijor province. There were 41 agricultural extension workers, and composting facilities operators from the local government units of Amlan (Ayuquitan), Bacong, Bindoy (Payabon), City Of Guihulngan, Dauin, Dumaguete City, La Libertad, Mabinay, Manjuyod, Pamplona, San Jose, Sibulan, Tayasan, Valencia (Luzurriaga), and Vallehermoso in Negros Oriental and Larena, Maria, San Juan, and Siquijor, from the province of Siquijor, who successfully completed the training.

“First of all, I’m very thankful to this kind of training - Capacity Enhancement on the Operation of Composting Facilities for Biodegradable Waste. I’m very happy to be one of the participants. I learned about the composting process, the definition of terms, and the composting materials. I also learned what are the parts of bulking agents, nitrogen rich materials and carbon rich materials. Because of this training I learned how to operate a shredder, and roller composter,” said Ariel F. Sedillo – one of the training participants.

Leolito D. Siase, and Jose Ariel G. Almeda from DA – BSWM, Central Office shared their expertise on the topics discussed as resource persons while Ryan Joshua Villena, Angelie M. Bitas, and Charlou Ampit served as members of the training management team.
