ATI joins the month-long celebration of the 7th National Organic Agriculture Month

Dr. Carolyn May O. Daquio, ATI RTC 7 center director, welcomes the participants during the one-day seminar on Kainang Organik Ngayong Pandemic: Preparing Healthy Food and Healthy Juices in Greenthumb, Corella, Bohol

The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in Central Visayas joins the national effort to further promote, propagate, develop, and implement the practice of organic agriculture as part of the celebration of the 7th National Organic Agriculture Month.

This year’s celebration bears the theme "Organikong Pagsasaka, Sagot sa Pandemya", which aims to address the needs of people in accessing healthy and safe food especially during this pandemic. This month-long activity showcases different practices, technology, and products from various organic agriculture (OA) stakeholders all over the country.

Together with the DA Attached Agencies, DA Regional Field Offices, All Training Centers (TCs), Farmers Association, Academe and other institutions support the promotion of organic agriculture in the country through various activities such as webinar series and media promotions.

In support to the month-long celebration, a weekly upload on social media about information around organic is being posted on ATI official Facebook Page and Instagram account. On November 12, 2021, a webinar on Kainang Organik Ngayong Pandemic: Preparing Healthy Food and Healthy Juices was featured on ATI-Central Visayas Facebook Page. On November 16, 2021, a face-to-face seminar on the same topic was conducted among the ATI Central Visayas Learning Site cooperators who are organic agriculture practitioners and enthusiasts. Twenty (20) participants attended the said activity in Green Thumb, Corella, Bohol.

Merigine C. Otara, a culinary medicine practitioner, from ATI Central Visayas, and Dr. Maria Asuncion A. Jalad, a medical practitioner, shared their expertise. Otara taught participants on healthy juices and healthy food preparations. Dr. Jalad, on the other hand, talks about food as medicine while Angelie B. Mencede served as a member of the training management team.

I have a very good takeaway that, as a human being, we should think about food as medicine and medicine as food. This statement means we don’t need synthetic food and that we should eat the right food,” said Marilou Meneses – one of the training participants.
