NEGROS ORIENTAL. – A three-day youth encampment among 4Hers in this province with the emphasis on mushroom production and containerized gardening held at Formation Center in Bacong last October 3-5, 2018.
Forty-six 4H youth members participated in the said activity wherein they are expected to adapt and replicate the technology of containerized gardening and mushroom production in their respective residences/clubs.
Aside from input-discussion, the youths demonstrated the different ways to maximize used containers for planting plants and how mushroom are cultured through a guided hands-on workshop.
Besides, the encampment also provided camaraderie among youth-members wherein their commitment and enthusiasm were refreshed through the various activities and ceremonies.
Facilitating the activity were Angelina Bondad, Chief RIDD of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist and multi-awardee farmer, Elnard Ympal, of Elnard Integrated Farm of Candura, San Juan, Siquijor.
The 4Hers’ disclosed that they learned the importance of farmers that fed the entire nation. Indeed, learning by doing will keep the youths become best and better.
