Negros Oriental. – With the objective of making upland corn farming sustainable, the Agricultural Training Institute in Central Visayas trained 29 individuals composed of 27 Agricultural Extension Workers and 2 farmers from the province respectively.
The training was held at ATI-FFTC in the municipality of Bacong last July 19-21, 2017 with Jorge Trinidad, Training Specialist II of ATI-RTC 7 as the project officer together with Mr. June Rey Cabildo, Agricultural Technologist, Focal Person, Unified National Artificial Insemination Program (UNAIP) of the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian; Mr. Alvin Blaza, Chief of Operations and Mr. George Ubag, Agricultural Technologist, Report Officer for Corn and Research Assistant of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, this province in that order who composed the pool of trainers.
As this developed, the participants extended their heartfelt gratitude to ATI for providing this kind of training because they learned the Sloping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT) as well as hedgerows-legumes, crop rotation, goat raising, silage, preservation of forage with salt molasses and above all, they were able to make the actual A-Framing and how to properly use it.
This knowledge and skills will enable the participants to provide and or introduce technical assistance to upland and sloping land farmers using appropriate farming technologies that improve soil fertility and prevent erosion.
