TAGBILARAN CITY – With the continuous threat of the pandemic for the past three months, the Agricultural Training Institute in Central Visayas conducted its first face-to-face Training on Food Production at the Household Level with Financial Literacy last July 20-21 and July 27-28, 2020 at the Training Complex in Cabawan District, this city.

The two (2) batches with 10 individuals per training was adhered by ATI-7 in order to strictly follow and abide the protocols set by the authorities, thus, hands-on activities was not included.

The participants came from the five (5) districts of Tagbilaran City, namely: Poblacion, Tiptip, Dao, San Isidro and Cabawan respectively.

The objective of the training is to develop the participants by acquiring knowledge, attitude and skills on food production at the household level.

Their learnings ranges from cultural management practices of different vegetables; management of Native chicken; venturing into household native chicken and crop production. The participants are expected to develop their home garden using the after training support or starter kits inclusive of 1 sack vermicast, 1 sack CRH, 1 sack cow manure, 7 packs of assorted seeds, 10 plastic pots, sprinkler, trowel and 30 pcs ready to transplant assorted seedlings, 2 heads ready to lay paruakan native chicken with complete set of IEC materials and advocacy bag tag. They are also expected to apply the basic knowledge on financial literacy.

The pool of resource persons were Jessa Polo, Aida Novero and Dr. Genette Mae Egos, the Tagbilaran City Agriculture and Veterinarian Officer together with Rolando T. Alaan, practitioner and retired employee of Bohol-Agricultural Promotion Center, and Jorge F. Trinidad, ATI-7 Training Specialist II and at the same time the Project Officer who is also an urban gardener.
