Negros Oriental – a third batch of Training of Trainer (TOT) on Corn Production Technologies for AEWs was conducted on April 19 – 21, 2022 at the Manhattan Suites Inn, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. There were 22 AEWs coming from the municipalities/cities of Amlan, Bacong, Bais City, Bindoy, City of Bayawan, City of Guihulngan, City of Tanjay, Dauin, Dumaguete City, Mabinay, Pamplona, Santa Catalina, Sibulan, and Valencia in the province of Negros Oriental and OPA, Larena, Lazi, San Juan, Siquijor, and Maria in the province of Siquijor were able to participate in the three-day training.
The first batch of this TOT was conducted in Bohol on March 2 – 4, 2022 (details can be found here) while the second batch was conducted in Cebu on March 22 – 24, 2022.
Overall, the training aims to enable the participants to gain knowledge and skills on extension and the technical activities in corn production technologies for sustainable agricultural development. In the three-day course, participants learned about cultural management practices of corn production specialized in insect pests and diseases of corn; the fall armyworm management; and navigate the site-specific nutrient management (SSNM) nutrient expert tool for maize.
Jeffrey O. Awas from the Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center 7; Bienvenido D. Acabal Jr, Jorge A. Odiaman and Elmer P. Alcoseba from Regional Crop Protection Center DA-RFO 7, Maguikay, Mandaue City, Cebu; Ofelia M. Acabal and Harvey Neil F. Revelegia from the Regulatory Division of DA-RFO 7 shared their expertise on the topics discussed as resource persons while Charlou Ampit supported the training as a member of the training management team.
