BOHOL. In commemoration of its 252nd Foundation Day, the municipality of Dimiao, this province, formally launched Vino de Dimiao's Lomboy Wine. Spearheading the activity is Mayor Randolph Ang together with his Sangguniang Bayan Members. The launching was held at the LGU's Conference Hall last January 22, 2021.
To note, on August 12, 2020, Provincial Governor Arthur Yap called for a Micro Small Medium Enterprise Development (MSMED) Council meeting to discuss existing enterprise geared towards Bohol’s food, personal and health products sufficiency amidst pandemic. Lomboy wine was one of the identified enterprise that needs intervention. Seen by the members of the council to be a promising product, the Agricultural Training Institute – VII (ATI-7), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) collaborated for the project. Each of the agencies pledged to support for its product development, packaging and labelling, provision of financial assistance and shared service facility and expected to be completed within the year. Likewise, the municipal government and some members of the sangguniang panlalawigan has also shared funding for the project.
Java Plum or Lomboy in Bisaya is known for its health benefits such as rich in antioxidants, good for diabetes, heart and constipation, among others said Vivencia Adaya, chairman of Pagsa Multipurpose Cooperative (PMPC), Dimiao. Knowing its advantages and abundance interests PMPC Chairman to develop Lomboy Wine in 2010. Though it took a lot of courage doing product development as the cooperative lacks capital and facility according to Mrs. Adaya.
Gracing the activity were Congresswoman Alexie B. Tutor, ATI-7 Center Director Carolyn May O. Daquio, PhD and Provincial Agricultural Technology Coordinating Office (PATCO) Chief Roman Dabalos.
“Dako kaayo akong pasalamat sa mga tawo ug mga ahensya nga mitabang sa maong proyekto nga magmalamposon ug magmalambo-on” said Pagsa MPC Chairman Vivencia Adaya. Products will be soon available in Dimiao after necessary documents are complied and is expected to benefit over 200 beneficiaries.
