Urban Agriculture, Family Farming Advocates to Headline Culmination of Farmers’ & Fisherfolk’s Month

DILIMAN, Quezon City—As the Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s Month comes to a close, partners from the public sector, private groups, and other organizations are set to join the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) as they lead two events to further the efforts in urban agriculture and family farming.

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported the highest youth unemployment rate of 31.6% in April 2020. This is during a time when fresh graduates are expected to enter the labor workforce in the country. This, with all the continuous lockdowns to prevent the spread of COVID-19 virus, businesses were crippled. To cope and survive, companies resort to laying off employees, freezing hiring activities, and choosing experienced workers for fewer jobs.

Farming Champions Talk Innovation, Passion on ‘Agri Asenso’

DILIMAN, Quezon City—In line with the celebration of the Farmers’ and Fisherfolk Month, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) puts the spotlight on farmers and fishers for their outstanding contributions and performance in the agri-fishery sector through its radio program, “Agri Asenso”.

For the first two Saturdays of May, Gawad Saka outstanding high value crop farmer Greggy Saljay and outstanding young farmer Elnard Ympal talked about their respective innovations on integrated, diversified, and organic farming.

Magsasaka at Mangingisda, Bida sa Kabila ng Pandemya

Nakikiisa ang Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) sa buong bansa sa pagdiriwang ng “Buwan ng Magsasaka at Mangingisda” ngayong Mayo.

Sa pamamagitan ng temang “May pandemya man o wala, ang magsasaka’t mangingisda, maaasahan ng bansa”, tampok ang kontribusyon ng ating mga bayani sa bukid at palaisdaan upang magkaroon ng sapat na pagkain ang bawat Pilipino sa kabila ng nararanasang epekto ng COVID-19.
