LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET. The DA’s Back to Basic Advocacy Seminar is back for its second year in Benguet. This year’s seminar is dubbed as the Malawakang Pagbibigay-kaalaman sa Agrikultura: Magsasakang may Alam, Laging Angat, Sagana sa Kita or the MAPAGMALASAKIT program. Responding to the invitation, 593 stakeholders dominated by farmers from Benguet attended the seminar. The stakeholders converged at the Benguet State University Gym, La Trinidad, Benguet on July 26, 2019 for the activity.
The seminar lectures started with Dr. Sonwright B.Maddul, a retired professor of BSU, who shared the results of their studies on the Benguet native swine. Dr. Ma. Asuncion G. Beltran of the Tarlac Agricultural University provided tips in the production of free range layer chicken. This was followed by a lecture on goat production delivered by Dr. Conrado C. Carolino Jr. Dr. Rufo T. Llorin Jr, President of the Federation of Goat and Sheep Producers of the Philippines, Inc. presented the Philippine Goat Industry Road Map, and promoted dairy goat production. The Agriculture Credit Policy Council, through Ms. Kristle Anne S. Balingan, informed the participants of the DA loan programs. PCIC Region I OIC Regional Director Raul A. Servito discussed the PCIC insurance programs for the livestock sector completing the lectures for this year's Back to Basic advocacy seminar in Benguet.
The program is part of the yearly Back to Basics: Livestock Production Advocacy Seminar of the DA through its National Livestock Program. DA Assistant Secretary for Livestock Dr. Enrico Garzon graced the opening opening program of the seminar. Benguet Governor Melchor D. Diclas, through Benguet Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Miriam V. Tiongan and Executive Assistant to the Governor Nardo Cayat, expressed the full support of the Provincial Local Government Unit to the activity and other related programs.
The DA-RFO-CAR, through its Livestock Program, partnered with the ATI-CAR in the delivery of the program. Moreover, the seminar is also a coordinated effort between the DA-RFO-CAR, the ATI-CAR, the Benguet Provincial Local Government Unit through its Provincial Veterinary Office, and the Benguet municipal LGUs.
