ATI 8 Partners Value Lessons despite Pandemic

BAYBAY City, Leyte - Agriculture and Fishery related activities are considered part of the frontline services needed amid the COVID-19 pandemic and that movement of actors involved in the sector must not be hampered and slowed down.

That is why despite the on-going pandemic, ATI-RTC 8 together with its partner agencies and LGUs see to it that necessary AF related Projects, Programs, and Activities (PPAs) are still dished out to its clients. These are deemed necessary as these would empower them in honing skills and knowledge that might help them face the challenges brought by this worldwide health crisis.

On October 9, 2020, ATI-RTC 8 conducted a Consultation Workshop on AF Extension Implementation which aimed to identify appropriate extension interventions projects or activities for year 2021-2022 for the different commodity programs. This activity was also a venue for them to identify the issues and concerns in the implementation of agriculture and fishery extension programs in the region.

The online consultation workshop, conducted via Zoom, enabled the different partners to craft strategies to address the issues that were identified in the past year so that the implementation of extension programs in Eastern Visayas may be strengthened.

As some suggested, with the new normal, majority of the PPAs for 2021 will be conducted online or through radio. This is to avoid face-to-face interactions as restricted by National Health Protocols. Due to these Covid-19 restrictions, AEWs and Learning Site cooperators shall also be tapped as partners in the implementation and monitoring of the different activities.

Despite missing the hype brought by physical interaction, Ms. Jenny Lind Cayanong, a participant from Maripipi, Biliran, found the activity fine. “It’s still just like facing each other. Each of us can still talk and our questions were still answered.” She added that one limitation to online meetings is the poor internet connectivity.

A total of sixty (60) participants from the different provinces in Region 8 attended the activity entitled, “Valuing Lessons and Consultation Workshop on AF Extension Implementation”.
