BAYBAY CITY, Leyte - After its launching on July 20, 2020, ATI-RTC 8’s “Humay Gad” the Radio Broadcast on Rice Production has made waves in the lives of its avid listeners may it be on-air or online. Being made available through online livestreaming, the program has extended its reach to more viewers not limited to Eastern Visayas residents alone.
The 25-episode broadcast focused on providing its listeners access to knowledge and skills on the production of high-quality inbred rice and seeds, and farm mechanization. This too opened possibilities for listening farmers to be aware of the many services from the government which they can acquire.
“An masisiring ko ha Humay Gad program is so far the best program for rice”. What I can say about the Humay Gad program is that it is by far one of the best programs under rice. Said Victor Ritaga, a farmer-listener from Tacloban, Leyte. According to him the program was very informative and the topics were easy to adopt. “Congratulations to all the staff for their untiring efforts to reach out to the rice farmers in Region 8.” He added.
Due to the pandemic, the modified School-on the-Air (SOA) had quite a few setbacks as it abided with the local quarantine protocols in the region. This however, didn’t stop ATI from assessing the knowledge gained by the participants during the broadcast. Daily quizzes allowed active participation among listeners.
One winner, Longino Pace from La Paz, Leyte, said that he was happy to have won the quiz promos. He received garden tools such as rakes, boots, seedling tray, and even a leaf color chart. A transistor radio and a half sack of rice were also among the prizes. “Damo nga salamat. Dako nga bulig ha akon paguma ug kahibaro paghagna ini nga Humay Gad.” Thank you very much. Humay Gad was a big help in my knowledge and skills as a farmer. He added.
According to the Program Leader, Ms. Jonalyn Saulan, recorded episodes of the content was believed to be a good strategy since quarantine protocol have changed often within the duration of the program. Video formats of each topic was also of great help as it aided the discussions during the live broadcast at ATI in Eastern Visayas’ Facebook Page.
