BURAUEN, Leyte –ATI-RTC 8 in partnership with Villaconzoilo Farm has reached out to an increasing number of farmers in Eastern Visayas since the latter became a School for Practical Agriculture. May it be for National Certification II or a training among interested group of individuals, it cannot be dismissed how both have engaged in activities for the locals’ continuous skill and capability building.
Among the new beneficiaries are women farmers of Anonang, Burauen, Leyte. This is part of the on-going organic vegetable production seminar series that aims to promote organic home gardening for continuous availability of food for the family. The training not only allows hands-on experience, but participants get to take home starter kits for their respective gardens.
One of the participants shares of her experience, “Thank you so much to Villaconzoilo Farm for the sacrifice in going to our barangay in order to conduct his training. We need to sustain this urban gardening for the consumption of our family and if there is excess in the production we can sell it to other families. We hope that this will not be the end of the training, we wish that there are still a lot more to come so we can learn more knowledge about farming, shares one of the participants.”
Specifically, participants learned the preparation of potting media and fermenting organic concoctions. They were also introduced to innovative strategies such as vertical, square foot and container gardening.
A total of 15 farmers completed the Training on Organic Vegetable Production with extension support on September 29-October 1, 2020 in Burauen, Leyte. (With reports from AV Aborita)
