BAGO CITY, Negros Occidental – Thirty new facilitators composed of 29 Agricultural Extension Workers and One Learning Site Cooperator are now ready to work together towards the goal of “Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita” of the Department of Agriculture during the recently concluded Training of Trainers on Inbred Rice Seeds Production and Farm Mechanization held at Negros First Organic Technology Center (NFOTeC), Tabunan, Bago City, Negros Occidental last November 4-15, 2019.

During the opening program, Atty. Japhet Masculino, Provincial Agriculturist of Negros Occidental, discussed the highlights of the Rice Tariffication Law. He further expressed the positive aspects of the said law. Meanwhile, Dr. Mary Ann Ordinario, Provincial Extension Coordinator; Dr. Armando Abaño, Provincial Rice Coordinator; and Ms. Gilda Abian, Provincial Project Development Officer, were also present during the 12-day training to express their support.

The participants that completed the 12-day extensive training came from the different Municipalities of Iloilo and Negros Occidental. They actively participated in the series of lectures and hands-on activities on PalayChecks, Machinery Operation and Safety; Financial Analysis; Agro-Ecosystem Analysis (AESA); and Policies and Guidelines on Seed Certification. They were also taught how to operate farm machineries such as four-wheeled tractor with cultivator, riding type transplanter, and combined harvester. Aside from these, they were also trained to enhance their facilitative skills and presented their farmer-level rice related topics in the microteaching activity.

This activity is part of ATI Region 6’s next steps under the training component of Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Program (RCEP) that aims to create a pool of trainers with enhanced knowledge, skills and attitude on the implementation of the Modified Season-Long Farmer Field School (FFS) on the Production of High-Quality Inbred Rice and Seeds. The same training will be conducted for Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organization on November 18-29, 2019 at The Venue Hotel, San Jose, Antique and Training Course on Rice Seeds Production and Seed Certification for Seed Inspectors (Visayas-wide) on November 18-22, 2019 at ATI-RTC VI Training Hall, ASU Compound Banga, Aklan.
