FARMER YOUTH PARTNERSHIP GIVES HOPE TO GRADUAL DECREASE OF INTEREST IN AGRI

Compesor Solomon, a 77-year old farmer from San Remegio, Antique, touches and uses a smartphone for the first time. Along with him is his grandson who is eager to teach him the uses of the said gadget.

SAN JOSE, Antique – Forty farmers from nine municipalities in Antique namely Culasi, Barbaza, Bugasong, Belison, San Remigio, Sibalom, San Jose, Hamtic and Tobias Fornier bring their youth partners to assist them during the third and fourth batches of Digital Farmers Program 101 Training on November 11-12, 2020 at The Venue Hotel, Funda Landing, San Jose, Antique.

This gives hope to the gradual decreasing interest of the youth in agriculture. The partnership between the youth and ageing farmers will revive the agriculture industry while maximizing the use of smartphones. Reality speaks that agriculture is dynamic that it has to fit in with the changing landscape on agri-fisheries technology.

The activity aims to introduce farmers and their families the various mobile and digital technologies for their use on their livelihood. It is a ladderized program that was conceptualized by the Agricultural Training Institute and SMART Communications to empower the farmers with digital tools and technology particularly on social media. The same participants will proceed with DFP 102 and DFP 103 to be conducted next year.
