NEW SETS OF AKEANON BARANGAY ANIMAL HEALTH WORKERS (BAHW) VOLUNTEERS TRAINED

A participant is deworming the large ruminants as part of their hands-on activity during the Training for Para- Technicians on Basic Veterinary Services (Barangay Animal Health Worker).

BANGA, AKLAN – Twenty-one (21) Barangay Animal Health Workers (BAHW) from the Municipalities of Madalag and Ibajay, Aklan were trained during the Training for Para- Technicians on Basic Veterinary Services (Barangay Animal Health Worker) last September 8 - 10, 2020, at ATI Training Hall, ASU Compound, Banga, Aklan in support to the National Livestock Program (NLP) of the Department of Agriculture (DA).

Skilled resource persons from the Office of Provincial Veterinarian– Aklan delivered various topics that led to the success of the event. Lectures on Ethno Veterinary Medicine, Animal Welfare Act, Methods of Diagnosis, Basic Health Care Services, and History Taking were carried out to the participants. A hands-on activity on large ruminants and goats was performed.

Dr. Ma. Cyrosa Mabel Siñel, Aklan Provincial Veterinarian, was present during the activity and expressed her support to the program.

The BAHW are volunteer workers to help the delivery basic veterinary services in their respective areas. They are expected to support the program to reach the farmers in their respective communities. The training enhanced their knowledge, skills, and attitude through experiential learning activities such as proper restraining of animals, castration, deworming, estimation of body weight, pregnancy diagnosis test, and administration of injectable/ oral vitamins.
