Members of Nalook Barangay Health Workers (BHW) and Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) visits “Atong Ugsaran” just this morning. Dr, Eden DR. Bautista ATI Center introduced the garden as the agency’s response to DA’s plant plant plant program to promote food sufficiency and sustainability amidst this Covid-19 crisis.
Headed by BHW President Ms. Lanie Bartolome, the group were toured by Ms. Mary Ann Ramos, ATI-RTC 6 Training Specialist III and in-charge of “Atong Ugsaran”. Ms. Ramos explain the importance of growing vegetables for consumption. She likewise introduced the different technology such as the square foot gardening. Tips on growing hot pepper, bulb onion and carrots were also discussed. Ms. Ramos give emphasis on the most important factor in vegetable production which is the soil media. She explained to the group the composition as well as the ratio of soil media used in the demonstration area.
After the tour in the garden, the group headed to the Centers Information Services Section (ISS) for the provision of various IEC materials especially vegetable production guides.
“This visit is very fruitful. We learned a lot and we will eventually apply the learning we had in Atong Ugsaran. We are about to establish our communal garden within the vicinity of our Brgy. Health Center”, said Ms. Bartolome.
