SOA graduates receive urban gardening starter kits

Farmer-graduates of the School-on-the Air (SOA) on PalayCheck System for Inbred Rice Production received urban gardening starter kits as part of their after training support on the program.

The SOA was participated by farmers from the municipalities of Cordon, San Mateo, Luna, and Cabatuan in the province of Isabela, and municipalities of Cabarroguis and Diffun in Quirino.

The awarding of kits were conducted during the SOA Meet and Greet held on December 1-4, 2020 in different municipalities. The starter kit is composed of garden hoe, shovel, spade, trowel, vegetable seeds, seedling trays and transistor radio.

Maragsakan nak ta lumag-an ti trabahu nu ammum,” said Mr. Ferdinand Soriano of Rizal, Diffun Quirino.

The SOA was aired from August 19 to November 27, 2020 over DWSI 864 kHz Santiago City and DWQP 92.1 Cabarroguis, Quirino.

The radio program is one of the communication strategies of the Extension Component of the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund.

It aims to increase the awareness of farmers on the PalayCheck System for Inbred Rice Production. Recently, the PalayCheck System was updated to include the Key Check 9 that covers postharvest management.

Napintas daytuy SOA ta adu ti matulungan na nga mannalun lalu dagidiay di na ammu ti rugi na manipud panagpili ti bin-i inngana panagbilag…Ta iti panagpili ti bin-i kailangan nga napintas iti kalidad na... Bareng nga adu pay tu iti SOA nga manggegan mi,” Mr. Marlon Edralin of Luna, Isabela said.

The distribution of starter kits is also in support to the Plant, Plant Plant Program of the Department of Agriculture.
