BUTUAN CITY – In preparation for the first round of judging of the vegetable gardening contest for the youth, the AGUSAN UP Coordinating Center of the Provincial Governors’ Office – Agusan del Norte called for a meeting last July 22, 2020 with partner-agencies who will compose the panel of judges.
During the meeting, the schedule and criteria for the three rounds of judging were reviewed and finalized. The first round of judging will commence on July 28-30, 2020, while the second and third rounds will be on August and September, respectively.
The contest dubbed as “Indigay sa Gulayan sa Kabatan-onan,” is a province-wide vegetable gardening contest for the municipal Sangguniang Kabataan Federation (SKF) launched last June 17, 2020 during the celebration of Araw ng Agusan del Norte.
“This is the provincial government’s way of encouraging the young generation to engage in a more productive pastime, and to teach them the value of growing their own food especially in this time of the pandemic, ” said Mary Ann G. Rabuya, AGUSAN UP personnel.
Albert A. Libre of AGUSAN UP mentioned the involvement of the respective Municipal Agriculture Offices of the participating SKF in providing technical advisories during the establishment and management of the garden. He added that AGUSAN UP provided the seeds and other inputs for the project. Libre said that the top 3 winning entries will receive cash prizes amounting to Php 30,000.00 for the 1st placer, Php 20,000.00 (2nd), Php 10,000.00 (3rd) and Php 5,000.00 consolation prize for non-winners.
The meeting was attended by Caraga State University faculty members Elizabeth P. Parac and Joanne A. Langres, and Mary Grace B. Salve of the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI).
