Gensan youths get hands dirty in Mushroom Production

4-H Club members preparing substrate for the fruiting bags

Members of Anak-Baluan 4-H Club made themselves busy and productive through learning the ABCs of Mushroom Production during the training conducted by the Agricultural Training Institute Region 12 (ATI XII) on August 19-20, 2020.

Amid COVID19 Pandemic, learning continues. These young and hopeful farmers saw that education is key to success. They have learned to appreciate that mushroom production can be a profitable endeavor alongside rice production.

During one of the lectures, participants got to know the different types of mushrooms that can be established and can possibly ventured into. Spawning, preparation of substrate, and bagging for fruiting bags were some of the topics presented.

The training was a mix of lecture and actual hands-on demonstration. Ms. Betty Grace Cabañero shared during the closing program that she expected the training to be boring but was amazed that there was so much to be enjoyed, specially the actual demonstration.

A total of 21 4-H members were present and completed the training at Brgy. Baluan, General Santos City facilitated by RBO Focal Person Ms May A. Guiang and Technical Staff Anareystel Lape.
