The ATI-RTC XII came to four cities of Region XII to launch the Extension Support to Community Agriculture Production and Enhancement to Battle COVID-19 Pandemic (ESCAPE COVID-19). The center brought the program to Koronadal City, Kidapawan City, General Santos City, and Tacurong City on July 8, 16, 21, and 24, respectively.
The extension support aims to encourage and support urban agriculture to agriculture and gardening enthusiasts in line with the Department of Agriculture's goal of boosting food sustainability in the country.
In his messages during the launching programs, ATI-RTC XII Center Director Abdul I. Daya-an encouraged the participants to have a home-based garden for food sustainability and a healthy family. The activities also include orientation about the project and a seminar on urban gardening discussed by Planning Officer II Engr. Teofilo Jumawan, Jr.. At the end of the activity, the ATI-RTC XII Staff distributed vegetable seeds, planting materials, IEC materials, and organic fertilizer to the beneficiaries.
The first launching activity was held in the Barangay Hall of Barangay General Paulino Santos (GPS), City of Koronadal. The barangay was also the recipient of the extension support. Additionally, Koronadal City's launching was attended by Koronadal City Mayor Hon. Eliordo U. Ogena, Barangay General Paulino Santos Punong Barangay Hon. Margarita Subaldo, and City Agriculturist Ma. Emelita B. Miguel.
On the second launching held in Kidapawan City, the ATI-RTC XII staff and recipients from Brgy. Singao, Lanao, Balindog, New Bohol, and Poblacion were welcomed with a message of support from Kidapawan City Mayor Hon. Joseph Evangelista.
For the third ESCAPE COVID-19 Extension Support Launching, the ATI-RTC XII staff made their way to Brgy. Conel, General Santos City. The beneficiaries from General Santos City were from Brgy. Mabuhay, Katangawan, and Conel. In attendance to give their support to the activity was General Santos City Agriculturist Merlinda M. Donasco and Brgy Captain of Brgy Conel, Hon. Luciano O. Palma.
Lastly, the fourth City to receive the ESCAPE COVID-19 Extension Support was Tacurong City. The activity held in the City Gymnasium and attended by the eager recipients from a chosen Farmer's Association of Tacurong City. In attendance was Tacurong City Agriculturist Leoncia Nebres, Farmer Association President Jaf Ner Robles, and in Behalf of City Mayor Hon. Angelo Roncal Montilla, City Councilor Atty. Remo Y. Flores.
The participants of the ESCAPE COVID -19 Extension Support and their gardens will be monitored by their Barangay officials and City Agriculture Office. They will also be further taught on how to properly maintain their urban gardens through Demo Farm and ATI Learning Site for Agriculture (LSA) visits in their city.
