The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center XI conducted a twelve-day training on October 20, 2019, to November 1, 2019, entitled: Training of Trainer of Modernized Production of High-Quality Inbred Rice and Seeds (Batch 1).

The said training held at Comval Hotel, Nabunturan, Compostela Valley with 33 participants of Agricultural Extension Workers, Local Farmer Technicians, Learning Site and Farm School Cooperator and TESDA Staff from provinces of Davao del Sur, Davao del Sur, Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, and Davao City, as the priority provinces for the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF).

The activity aims to heighten the sense of mission to help the farmers become competitive, gain additional knowledge on the concepts and principles of the PalayCheck System specifically on the production of high quality inbred rice seeds and to improve their management skills and knowledge on basic financial management.

Moreover, right after the conduct of the said activity, the trainers will implement the Modified Season-long Farmers Field School on the production of high quality inbred rice seeds in their respective assigned barangay in the locality through the assistance and coordination of the Technical Education Skills Development Authority-XI (TESDA-XI), Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center XI (ATI-RTC XI), Local Government Units and Provincial Local Government Units (LGUs and PLGUs).

Further, to successfully attain the training objectives, it maximized interaction and active participation for the desired outcome of the activity. The following techniques were employed: 1. Lecture and participatory discussion, 2. Field practicum such as seedling preparation/hands-on on the operation of the farm machinery (Land preparation machines and harvesting machines such as 4-wheel drive and walk-behind tractor, mechanical transplanter and combine harvester), 3. Structured learning exercises.

In addition, as part of the activity to improve the facilitation skills of the participants the microteaching and critiquing was done. They are critiqued by the panel in terms of deliberation and mastery of the topic on rice production presented to the group and how they applied the participatory learning approach to their expected participants.

For the calendar year 2019, there are two batches of training of trainers of modernized production on high quality inbred rice and seed scheduled in the Davao region under the Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF).
