Seed growers revisit rice and seed production principles

A total of fourteen (14) seed growers from the provinces of Davao del Sur, Davao de Oro, and Davao Oriental were able to revisit their rice production knowledge after attending the Refresher Training on Inbred Rice Seed Production and Certification for Seed Grower conducted by Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in Davao Region.

The training intends to upgrade the participants’ knowledge and skills in seed production and certification in terms of policies, guidelines, and seed technologies.

Moreover, the training would encourage the seed growers to become a member of an existing seed growers’ cooperative to strengthen their commitment and involvement in inbred rice seed production and certification.

The course content of the training includes the topics on the rice program status of the region, policies, and guidelines on seed testing and certification, cultural management practices of inbred rice seed production, harvest and post-harvest technology, integrated pest management, among others.

During the training, the participants have undergone lectures, participatory discussions, and hands-on field inspection and assessment to seed production areas.

Resource persons of the training were Ernie Malazarte, Agriculturist II, ATI XI, Eufemia Laud, Center Chief, Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), Rosalinda Aratan, Sr. Agriculturist, BPI, and Rafael Nemenzo, Agriculturist, BPI.

The training was conducted on August 12-14, 2020.
