An Agriculturist’s Rise to Success
Richel, or Don-don as his peers call him, has inspired many farmers and technicians for many years through his skills and expertise. He is currently an agriculturist, a corn specialist, an agricultural trainer, and the current Training Specialist II at the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in Region XI. However, the road to his professional career was not entirely a smooth highway.
Humble Beginnings

Losing her father at a very young age made Helen Sarmiento the tough woman that she is today. Her passion and dedication to be of service to others and her patience in overcoming any obstacle that comes her way is what makes her stand out as an agricultural extension worker (AEW) in the province of Zamboanga del Sur. Helen presently holds the position of Agriculturist II at the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist in Pagadian City. She is the ruralbased organization (RBO) focal person and is in charge of the search for outstanding farmer.

It is rare for someone to base their own happiness and satisfaction from the success of others, but for Gemma Cania, or Ma’am Gem as she is fondly called, the contented smiles of her clients have been her real joy for almost 15 years of being a public servant.
Digging Deeper, Aiming Higher
A resident of Poblacion, Dumaran, Palawan, Dennis Aba graduated from the ATI’s Dual Training System Program in Agriculture Entrepreneurship for Out-of-School Youth in September 2013 as part of the first batch of scholars in Palawan.
“With persistence and perseverance, success is possible,” expresses 25-year-old Dennis Abaas he recounts his farming journey.
Transforming Learning during the Covid-19 Pandemic
Professor Ardniel Baladjay, PhD of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) says he has always been on the lookout for innovative and updated ways of teaching, beyond the usual lecture-discussion structure.
With government directives in place to avoid the spread of coronavirus, Dr. Baladjay is relieved that he was able to introduce his students to the eLearning Program for Agriculture and Fisheries by the Department of Agriculture – Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI) even prior to the lockdown.
