ACIAR ASEM 2010/050 aims to improve watershed rehabilitation outcomes in the Philippines which will have to be demonstrated, among others, by increased livelihood opportunities and decreased poverty in rural upland areas.  It is a five-year project funded by the Australian Government through the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research and jointly implemented by the University of Queensland, the Visayas State University and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.  Dr Arturo E Pasa, VSU professor, is the project’s country coordinator.

The planning workshop was participated by scientists and rural development experts from the Philippines, Australia, Vietnam, the Netherlands and the United States.  After the workshop, the participants visited a watershed in Caibiran, Biliran, which is a possible site for the project.
