e-Learning coordinator serves as CPAR projects evaluator

Marabut, Samar. e-Learnning Coordinator Hazel Grace T Taganas joined other Community Participatory Action Research-Regional Commodity Team (CPAR-RCT) members in evaluating the completed CPAR projects during the projects terminal review on May 2-3, 2013 at Caluwayan Palm Island Resort in the province of Samar.

Calbiga FITS center is first in 2013

Calbiga, Samar.  On January 18, the local government of Calbiga in the province of Samar launched its FITS (Farmer Information and Technology Service) center, making it the first to be established in 2013. 

465 finish SOA on organic agriculture

Calbayog Samar. Of the 691 School-on-the-Air (SOA) on organic agriculture enrollees, 465 made it to the graduation rites.  These were the students who completed all requirements like passing in the examinations, application of learning in their vegetable gardens/farms and attendance in farm visits that showcased organic vegetable farming. Of the graduates, 66 finished the Farmer Field School (FFS), mostly elementary and secondary school teachers who were in-charge of Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan or Technology Livelihood Education (TLE) subject.

ATI 8 conducts IRPEP assessment

VSU, Baybay City.  The VSU-based ATI-RTC 8 conducted the Irrigated Rice Production Enhancement Program (IRPEP) Farmers Field School (FFS) Assessment and Planning Workshop on November 6-8, 2012.  The activity was participated in by 28 FFS facilitators from the provinces of Leyte, Samar and Northern Samar.

Project Officer Dalmacio Pajanustan provided the overall status of the IRPEP FFS implementation in the region focusing on the accomplishments and challenges.  The participants also shared their individual reports in the conduct of the FFS in their municipalities.

SOA on Organic Agriculture launched in Samar

Calbayog City, Samar.  In partnership with the City Government of Calbayog thru the City Agriculture Office, ATI-RTC 8 launched the School on the Air (SOA) on Organic Agriculture on September 13, 2012 at the Calbayog Convention Center.  The launching was attended by 576 farmers, agricultural extension workers and students.

ATI 8 inks MOA with PLGU Samar

Catbalogan Samar.  Center Director Paulino T. Cabahit signed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the provincial government of Samar represented by Vice Governor Stephen James T. Tan on the establishment of Farmers Information and Technology Service (FITS) center at the Office of the Provincial Agriculture.

ATI 8 staff train coop leaders

Catbalogan, Samar -- Twenty-six cooperative leaders and local government units representatives from the different municipalities of Samar attended the trainers training on cooperative sponsored by the SusCom AdvoCoop in close coordination with ATI-RTC 8.

Farmers and AEWs in banana production training

Samar. The Agricultural Training Institute 8 conducted a 3-day trainers training on banana production technology in the province of Samar on May 15-17, 2012.  It was participated in by 17 farmers and nine agricultural extension workers.

RA 10068 launched in Samar

For a “truly sustainable agriculture” RA 10068 also known as the Organic Agriculture Act of 2010 was conceptualized and implemented.

In the Province of Samar, the launching of the said Act was held on March 1, 2012 at the Provincial Gymnasium in Catbalogan City. The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist of Samar spearheaded the event which started with a motorcade around the city. There were 275 registered participants, including 105 farmers from other municipalities.

4Hers harness skills in program management

ATI 8 brought together the 4H club leaders and members in the west part of Samar Island specifically from the municipalities of Gandara and Sta Margarita for a three-day training on project management and skills enhancement on November 7-9, 2011 in Brgy. Balud, Sta Margarita, Samar.
 
The 52 4Hers went through leadership and management modules designed to further strengthen their capabilities. They reviewed the 4H club development programs and their roles in the development endeavors of their communities.
