PWDs learn organic agriculture

Borongan City, Eastern Samar. Fifteen persons with disabilities or PWDs gained knowledge on organic agriculture during the training designed for those who are physically-challenged on May 15-17, 2013 at ATI-RTC 8 Satellte Center in Borongan City.  The participants came from the city of Borongan and from its neighboring town, San Julian and from San Policarpo, which is almost 100 kilometers from the City.

SOA on DIFS graduation held

Borongan City, Eastern Samar. Of the 285 enrolees in the School On the Air on Diversified Integrated Farming Systems, 178 made it to the graduation ceremony on March 25, 2013 at the Capitol Multipurpose Gymnasium, Borongan City.  The farmer-graduates were from the municipalities of Can-avid, San Policarpo, Dolores, Sulat, Maydolong, Balangkayan, Llorente, and Hernani and the city of Borongan.

Farmers learn nature farming inputs formulations

Eastern Samar. Thirty-one (31) agricultural extension workers, farmers and teachers attended the training on Organic Agriculture at the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-Arteche National Agricultural School in Arteche, Eastern Samar on September 17-21, 2012.  The training was speardheaded by ATI-RTC 8 in coordination with the local government of Arteche.

ATI 8 conducts seed banking training

Borongan City -- Twenty-seven agricultural extension workers (AEWs) and farmer leaders from the 12 municipalities of Eastern Samar participated the training of trainers on community seed banking for both upland and lowland rice.

Sec. Alcala visits Region 8

Naval, Biliran -- Sec. Proceso J. Alcala visited the province of Biliran on May 31, 2012 to the delight of the local officials and their constituents headed by Congressman Rogelio J. Espina and Governor Gerardo J. Espina.

AEWs and educators attend TOT on organic agriculture

Recognizing the need for a sustainable agriculture and a more environment-friendly food production model, and in pursuant to the Organic Agriculture Act of 2010 (RA 10068), the ATI-RTC 8 convened together agricultural extension workers and state universities and colleges (SUC) staff for a 5-day training of trainers on organic agriculture.

25 graduate off-season vege production

Twenty-five (25) farmers, housewives and out-of-school youths of barangays San Miguel and San Julian in Eastern Samar received their certificates of participation in the Season-Long Farmers Field School (FFS) on Off-Season Vegetable Production on December 17, 2011.  The four-month FFS started in July 2011 in partnership with the local government units and provincial government of Eastern Samar.

The activity was done in response to the clamor of the farmers for knowledge on improved system on vegetable production, especially off-season vegetable production.

AEWs trained on making proposal

Scarcity of resources necessitates wise use of them.  Hence, investors and funding agencies would always want to put their money to its best use by determining first the feasibility of any project before any money outlay.

This led to the conduct of the capability building for the agricultural extension workers (AEWs) to equip them with the skills of preparing a project proposal to better assist the farmers not only in identifying the right investment opportunities but also in accessing funds.

TOT on AgriPinoy conducted in Samar provinces

ATI 8 conducted training of trainers on the AgriPinoy framework in Samar provinces; Eastern, Western, and Northern Samar to boost the performance of the agriculture sector and to foster partnerships and collaborative undertakings through sustainable agriculture.

The three training of trainers started in Eastern Samar on March 7-11 at the ATI 8 Satellite Center, ESSU Compound, Borongan, Eastern Samar, which was participated in by 44 municipal agriculturists and technicians, and teachers for technology and livelihood education.
