4H-ers get bounty

What could be more satisfying than to close year 2010 with bounty?  To the 4Hers of Tomas Oppus in Southern Leyte, harvesting what they have stocked gave more meaning to year 2010.

Staff plant trees

While most employees were having their Christmas break, some 50 ATI-RTC 8 staff and beneficiaries significantly made a difference in their environment by planting Mahogany trees on December 23, 2010 in barangays Palhi and Marcos in Baybay, Leyte.  Center Director Paulino T. Cabahit spearheaded the activity.

25 Graduate in Off-Season Vege Production

Twenty-five (25) farmers, housewives and out-of-school youths of barangays San Miguel and San Julian in Eastern Samar received their certificates of participation in the Season-Long Farmers Field School (FFS) on Off-Season Vegetable Production on December 17, 2010.  The four-month FFS started in July, 2010 in partnership with the local government units and provincial government of Eastern Samar.

27 receive TOT training certificates

Another Season-Long Training of Trainers on PalayCheck System culminated on December 8, 2010 producing 27 trainer-graduates from the provinces of Samar, Northern Samar and Leyte in Region VIII.  The training was conducted in support to the Irrigated Rice Production Enhancement Project (IRPEP).  It started on August 23, 2010.

e-Learning turns three

On December 11, 2010 e-Learning celebrated another milestone, its third year anniversary. The e-Learning for Agriculture and Fisheries (A & F) is a major component of the Department of Agriculture's e-Extension Program coordinated by the Agricultural Training Institute in partnership with other government agencies, state universities and colleges and nongovernment organizations.

More SOA graduates

Another School-on-the-Air (SOA) on PalayCheck System culminated on October 27, 2010 in the western part of Samar Island.

Only 10 of the 167 enrollees were not able to graduate.  Topping the SOA farmer-graduates is Raymundo P. Leano, Jr. of Brgy. Cag-anibong.  He was followed by Ranilo Yabao of Brgy. Mag-ubay and the honorable mention awardees; Antonio R. de la Tonga of Brgy. Sigo, Justino B. Regalia of Brgy. Binaliw, and Editha de la Tonga of Brgy. Sigo, Calbayog City. 

The e-Team

There is an A-Team and another an e-Team.

The A-Team is a fictional group of ex-United States Army Special Forces personnel who work as soldiers of fortune. Each team member has specialization which complements that of the other in the team,making them formidable.

Submergence-Tolerant Rice Production training conducted

The decreasing rice lands and increasing number of mouths to feed led to producing rice even in most unlikely areas, like those that are prone to flooding.

With climate change, flooding can be more frequent.  Rather than leave flood-prone areas unproductive, efforts were made to utilize these areas to increase production of the country's basic staple.

210 confirmed SOA graduates

Of the 317 School-on-the Air (SOA) enrollees, 210 made it to the finals.  They were confirmed graduates on October 7, 2010 during the graduation rites held at the Capitol Building of the Province of Eastern Samar in Borongan.

Equipping AEWs

With the advancement in information and communication technology comes the challenge for our agricultural extension workers to tap it to work for them.  This is better applied in making their data accurate, presentable and easy to interpret, where such data are critical in the decision-making of the local policy makers in implementing development programs.
