Farmer Souribio Palaychecks and flourishes

Farmers of Brgy. Café, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo cannot help but wonder how the rainfed area of Mr. Eleserio Souribio became heavily filled with rice grains. Since the flowering stage, passers-by could not resist looking at the progressing panicles. Some would stop to inquire what is the variety planted and what are the practices employed.

Mr. Souribio actually did nothing much but follow the 8 keychecks of the PalayCheck System. He used his newfound superior variety, NSIC Rc222, for his field during the wet season. Other farmers in the neighborhood, observed a good harvest with the same variety.

At harvest time, the field turned into a harvest festival with farmers in the barangay lined up, holding their scythe to participate in the reaping for a share of the grains.  Everyone was hoping that they, too, can gain satisfaction on their endeavor and be blessed with bountiful harvest.

Mr. Souribio got the highest yield and net return among the 105 farmer-participants of the 5 Farmers Field Schools on rainfed rice ecosystem of Sta. Barbara, Iloilo last June to October 2012. His 0.40 hectare field, that served as the demonstration farm for PalayCheck System, had a computed gross harvest of 9.40 tons per hectare ,fresh weight . At 14%MC, gross harvest was 8.20 tons per hectare with a gross income of P121,345.00 per hectare. “Kudos” to you Mr. Souribio, may your variety (rice) flourish.
