ATI RTC 6, DA RFO 6 rolls out RCM in Iloilo, Guimaras

ILOILO CITY - Some 34 agriculture extension workers (AEWs) and local farmer technicians from the provinces of Iloilo and Guimaras were trained earlier this week in Iloilo City from April 24-28 as part of the regional roll out on Rice Crop Manager (RCM) Use and Operations.

RCM is a web-based decision making tool used with personal computers, tablets, and smart phones to interview irrigated and rainfed low land rice farmers and provide them with a personalized site-specific recommendation on crop and nutrient management.

This was designed for use by extension workers, crop advisers, input and service providers, and farmer leaders who gather the farmer’s rice-farming practices and conditions using a set of 30 simple questions. The information is then transmitted and calculated online to generate the recommendation on a specific rice area and how to adjust their farming practices to increase net income.

Now on its fourth batch, the roll out organized by the Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center 6 in partnership with DA RFO 6, was able to generate a total of 92 recommendations at barangays Siniba-an, San Matias, Tanghawan, and Matangharon at Dingle, Iloilo. The final roll out on the TOT on RCM Use and Operations will be held May 8 in the province of Iloilo.
