DILG representative briefed on TGP in Aklan setting

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) official representative to the RTWC Mr. Carmelo F. Orbista was oriented with the Techno Gabay Program in Aklan setting last July 12, 2013.  The orientation was held at the Farmers Information and Technology Services (FITS) Center in the Municipality of Banga, Aklan.

In a round table conversation, Director Alexander I. Ramos, of Aklan State University (ASU) Extension and Communication Services (ECS) talked about the Partner Member Agency (PMA) scheme in TGP implementation. He discussed primarily the monitoring and evaluation they are doing to their FITS as well as the technical assistance they are providing. Aklan State University is the PMA of FITS Altavas, Banga, Ibajay, Nabas, New Washington and Numancia in Aklan and FITS Libertad in Antique.
Likewise, Ms. Gelly R. Maypa, the Municipal Agricultural Officer (MAO) at the same time, the FITS Manager of FITS Banga oriented Mr. Orbista on the operation of the FITS Center. She told Mr. Orbista they are reaching the farmers especially in the far flung barangays by bringing their ICT equipment (laptop, projector and DVD player, etc.) and having film showing or PowerPoint presentation of the technologies they want the farmers to learn and adopt. She reveals how enthusiastic is the clients response to their purpose. “In fact, we have already launched a satellite FITS center at barangay Daja and we will soon launch another satellite FITS in Barangay Torralba this coming August,” FITS Manager Maypa said.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) being one of the implementing agencies of the Techno Gabay Program under Agricultural Training Institute plays a vital role in the successful implementation of the program since Local Government Units (LGU) are the major stakeholders of the program.
