Information Officers and RCM Focal Persons nationwide attend the 2nd RCM National Updating and Planning

Puerto Princesa, Palawan.  The 2nd National Rice Crop Manager (RCM) Updating and Planning was conducted to review the result of deployment and capability development during the first quarter 2017 and also to assess the implementation of agreements made in the January 2017 National Updating at Cagayan de Oro City.  This was attended by 30 DARFO RCM Focal Persons and 15 Information Officers of ATI-RTCs on April 18-21, 2017 at Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

In the updating sessions, various research activities and findings were presented as basis in updating the RCM App. The App is now being updated from 2.03 version to 2.1 version at present and upcoming version of 2.3.  Proposed updates to the content of RCM version 2.1 was discussed by Ms. Rowena Castillo of IRRI.  The SMS Alternative to Internet using the RCMPH Companion App as a support or partner of RCM was discussed and demonstrated by Ms. Neri S. Averion of IRRI.  The RCMPH Companion App is operated using mobile smart phone with android.  With this App, problems on internet signal will be minimized since the cellphone signal will be used to generate and send recommendations to the farmers.  The GPS Automation was also discussed as an update in the RCM App.

A sharing session on trends and regional exceptions in RCM implementation was also undertaken which was facilitated by Ms. Sarah Beebout, the RCM Project Director.

Updates on the Regional RCM Rollout trainings was presented by Mr. Joeven Calasagsag of ATI.  For region 02, ten (10) rollout trainings were conducted as of April 7, 2017.  The Tech4Ed Programs were also presented by the DITC staff in support to ICT needs of the LGUs especially the FITS Centers.

During the 3rd day, the participants worked in breakout groups.  The research group and the operation and training group met separately. For the operations and training group, activities include discussion and follow up on agreements and issues raised during the National RCM Workshop in CDO in January 2017, revisit targets for RCM dissemination and plans for Regional TOTs in 2017, determine training needs/gaps based on classification of extension agents, hands-on use of RCM Operator/User Registry and hands-on Use of SMS alternative to internet.  The result of discussions and agreements were reported in the big group.
