Training Course on GAP for Corn & Cassava Held
Upper Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City---A three-day Training Course on Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) for Corn and Cassava was recently held with Dr. Luz I. Guzman (pictured) of the Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC) of DA-RFO X as one of the invited speakers.
The training intends to equip the participants with knowledge in providing safe and quality corn grits and cassava tubers/chips to consumers to avoid food poisoning and other food-borne illnesses.
Dr. Guzman, a Senior Science Research Specialist (Sr. SRS) of the Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC) which is part of the Integrated Laboratory Division of DA-RFO X delivered her lecture on Pest and Disease Management to the 23 participants composing of farmers and AEWs at the SEARSOLIN, Manresa Complex, XU, Cagayan de Oro City.
Meanwhile, Mr. Neptali V. Ambos, Ms. Christine L. Kiamco, Ms. Maria Lilith Turan, and Mr. Philip D. Villegas also made up the roster of Resource Persons (RP).
Other topics discussed by module include Good Agricultural Practices, Aflatoxin in Corn, Good Agricultural Practices in Cassava as well as Crop Insurance as a Risk Mitigating Mechanism.
The training course which transpired last March 1 to 3 was managed by Mr. Noriel Kris O. Santillan, Training Specialist-II and Mr. Japheth G. Alvarez, Development Management Officer I / Budget Officer of ATI-RTC X.
