ATI Forges Partnership with NPA Rebel Returnees

Mayor Ty, RRs and Dr. Quirog

A new partnership with NPA Rebel Returnees was forged by the ATI-RTC 10 in Plaridel, Misamis, Occidental. This initiative was under the “From Arms to Farm” program of the ATI through the leadership of Director Asterio P. Saliot.

After a preliminary meeting with concerned stakeholders, an orientation on the “From Arms to Farm” was conducted including the delineation of roles. Those present in the meeting are: Plaridel Mayor Diego Ty and Staff, Municipal Agriculture Officer, Ms. Elizabeth Talam and Staff, Dr. Angelito Quirog, ATI-RTC 10 Center Director, Mr. Efren Macario, Project Focal Person and other ATI team members  and 16 Rebel Returnees of the New People’s Army.
All the program partners are farmers and residents of only one barangay in the Municipality who are actively involved in agriculture projects. All are participants of various organic agriculture trainings and PalayCheck Farmer Field Schools conducted by the LGU and ATI.
Trainings needs were already assessed. After receipt of individual proposals, an onsite farm assessment will be conducted by the ATI Technical Working Group before projects will be approved for funding. The program is set to start before the 2nd semester of this year.
