PFFS and Season-Long TOT on Rice Production with Emphasis on Palaycheck System holds joint graduation

Participants and guests

(from reports of Shiela Marie Ann Casabar) October 10, 2014 marks a memorable day for the 113 participants of the Participatory Farmers Field School (PFFS) and the 29 TOT graduates of the Season-Long Training of Trainers (TOT) on Rice Production with Emphasis on Palaycheck System. It was the day that they can claim that they are now experts in rice production management as a result of their 4 months training in Lala, Lanao del Norte.
The said training was facilitated by the Agricultural Training Institute- Regional Training Center X. The ATI training management staff is headed by Dr. Marily D. Vistal  and ably assisted by the facilitators: Jomer A. Sangoy, Crispiniano O. Canopin, Romeo M. Mendez, Joseph A. Abalorio and Edgardo A. Egot Sr. The TOT training started on June 23, 2014 until October 10, 2014 and at MWIMPC, Rebe, Lala, Lanao del Norte.
The PFFS were held at the different barangays of Lala, Lanao del Norte namely: Pinuyak, Rebe, Upper Sta. Cruz, Pindolunan and Abaga.
The PFFS graduation program was held in the morning of the said day. Graduates presented creative and entertaining Folk Media Presentations, some of which were oration, comical skit, singing and dancing. Some of the graduates also gave their impressions on the training. All of them were grateful for the opportunity that were given to them. According to them, they have learned a lot from the training and they have not regretted joining it. They are also proud to say that their harvest can now compete with other countries in terms of quality. They even said that the training will help them in fulfilling their dream to become rich. In response, Mr. Joseph Abalorio, one of the facilitators told them that they should apply all that they have learned in the training and that they must share their learnings to others. The participants were confirmed as graduates by Ms. Maria Lydia A. Echavez- Training Specialist III. In the Inspirational Message,  Mr. Efren Macario, CPA of ATI challenged the graduates by saying “All the knowledge necessary to succeed in rice production were already given to you, it’s all up to you now if you want to succeed. Being too old or too young is not an excuse for you not to succeed in life.”
On the other hand, the TOT graduation was held in the afternoon on that same day. Like the PFFS Participants, they were also grateful to the agency for giving them the chance to be taught about the new knowledge and techniques in rice production. They have been able to correct their wrong practices in farming and they have also been able to increase their harvest and income. They have also proved and showed through “balagtasan”, oration and “sayawit” what they have learned in the training. In his message, Dr. Angelito Y. Quirog OIC-Center Director of ATI-RTC X, left them words to ponder: “No one should be hungry on his own country.”
