ATIng Gulayan ng DA goes to Caloocan City

Participants get to try planting on used bottles after the lecture on Urban Gardening.

CALOOCAN CITY, Metro Manila – Another community visited equates to the propagation of knowledge on urban gardening. Yesterday, February 15, 2017, marked the first Caloocan City visit of the ATIng Gulayan Street Caravan led by the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI).

More than 120 Grade 7, 8, and 10 students of Mt. Heights National High School were taught about the basics of urban gardening. Likewise, they got to experience a hands-on demonstration on how to plant vegetables in some usual household finds like used mineral water bottles.

“Sa pagtatanim, may tatlong bagay na dapat isaalang-alang. Ito ay: sunlight, soil, at space,” said Christian Nunez, a student who participated in the caravan.

Meanwhile, Principal Benjamin Molina II encouraged the students to apply what they learned, “Isa-puso ninyo ang inyong natutunan dahil sa inyong mga kabataan nakasalalay ang kinabukasan ng ating bayan.”

ATIng Gulayan Street Caravan will continue to visit more cities and communities in the metro to demonstrate and advocate urban gardening.
