RCM Regional Roll-out Now on the Go

DILIMAN, Quezon City -- The ATI Network of Training Centers and the Department of Agriculture's Regional Field Offices have gone hand in hand in conducting the Regional Training of Trainers (TOT) for the Rice Crop Manager (RCM) Use and Operations.

RCM is a decision-support application designed for extension workers, crop advisers, input providers, and service providers. It enables them to provide a one-page actionable recommendation that matches their respective clienteles – rain-fed and irrigated lowland rice farmers – with location-specific cropping practices and needs.

The regional roll-out was premiered by the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) on August 22 to 26, 2016 through the ATI Regional Training Center in Tantangan, South Cotabato. This was then followed by trainings in region XII (South Cotabato) and region VII (Bohol) on August 30 to September 2, 2016.

Moreover, seven regions simultaneously conducted the TOT on September 5 to 9, 2016. These regions are Cordillera Administrative Region (Kalinga), region I (Pangasinan), region II (Isabela), Negros Island Region (Bacolod), region IX (Zamboanga Sibugay), region X (Misamis Oriental), and region XIII (Butuan). Region VI (Antique) held RCM TOT on September 26 to 30, 2016.

Overall, RCM bore the fruits of its labor as the 323 newly graduated regional trainers were able to interview a total of 735 farmers from various barangays and successfully generated 916 recommendations during the said activities.

In addition to the simultaneous RCM Training of Trainers, a National Updating and Planning workshop was held in Bacolod City on September 19 to 22, 2016 wherein the RCM focal persons of the regions presented their accomplishments on research and dissemination for RCM.

Last October 3 to 7, 2016, region VIII (Leyte), region XI (Davao) and the second batch of region II (Isabela) conducted the RCM TOT. This will be soon followed by trainings in regions III, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and Bicol.

Resource persons of the trainings were the 37 certified graduates of the National Training of Trainers for RCM Use and Operations held in San Pablo Laguna last July.
