New ATI Chief: Be Empowered to Empower

DILIMAN, Quezon City – Dr. Luz A. Taposok has been named as the new officer-in-charge (OIC) director of the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI).

Through Special Order 933, Series of 2016, Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Emmanuel Piñol designated Dr. Taposok as the new OIC Director of the ATI. The order further directed all officials and employees of the DA, including its bureaus, attached agencies, corporations, service units and regional field offices, to give her their full support and cooperation in the performance of her duties and responsibilities.

In her message during one of the agency’s flag-raising ceremonies, Dr. Taposok encouraged ATI employees to seize every opportunity to improve themselves to further empower farmers and fishers. This is in support to Piñol’s mission to boost the socioeconomic status of agricultural stakeholders.

In light of ATI’s recent completion of the surveillance audit for its ISO 9001:2008 certification, Dr. Taposok urged the Institute’s workforce to continue to strive in raising its level of excellence. She also called on everyone’s active participation and cooperation in the upcoming initiatives including the “ATIng Gulayan” or the ATI’s backyard vegetable gardening program.

Prior to her appointment to ATI, Dr. Taposok worked as a professor at the University of Southern Mindanao (USM), teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in Extension Education. She was also appointed as Dean of USM Kidapawan City Campus in 2014-2015.

Dr. Taposok also conducted research in agricultural education and community extension outreach programs. She was a recipient of the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program under the Fulbright Hays Scholarship Program for 2010-2011 where she studied rural and agricultural development and improved her leadership and management skills. She has received numerous accolades for her work including the 2015 Gawad Dangal ng Cotabato award for Community and Public Service and 2015 Kidapawan Hero. She was also a national finalist in the 2015 Gawad Saka Search for Outstanding Agricultural Scientist category and 2015 Metrobank Search for Outstanding Teacher in the Tertiary Level.

Dr. Taposok took her oath of office with Secretary Piñol on October 3, 2016 at the Office of the Secretary of Agriculture, DA Compound in this city.
