A Move to Being More Mobile-Friendly

ATI-ISD Core Group during the Courseware Tutorials in Benguet

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Technologies evolve in a blink of an eye. It has and is continuously changing the way people live their lives, the way they communicate, and the way they learn. As demands and lifestyle change, continuous system upgrades are necessary so services that greatly rely on these technologies could cope with these innovations. One of the industries that have greatly advanced over the years is the mobile phone industry, people now are exceedingly dependent on their mobile phones.

In a step to make e-Learning for Agriculture and Fisheries cater to this popular preference for use of mobile devices, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) decided to shift its course authoring software from Courselab® to Articulate Storyline 2®. This change is also meant to bring more interactivity in the e-Learning courses as well as make them cross-browser compatible and available offline.

The preference over Articulate Storyline 2® is primarily because of its easy authoring capability. This gives the courseware developers more hand in exploring its features and using its wide array of functionality; its interactions and animations, making the courses more reactive to the learners; and its accessibility that makes the courses tablet-ready using html5, IOS and/or Android operating systems.

In rolling out the use of Articulate Storyline 2®, the Information Services Division (ATI-ISD) of the Institute devised a series of intensive training on the new software for ATI’s pool of courseware developers from the Central Office and its network of Training Centers nationwide. A core group of developers from ATI-ISD was already trained last September 21-24, 2015 at the ATI Training Center in the Cordillera Administrative Region. The core group was formed to boost the review and polishing of all the submitted courses prior to uploading at the e-Learning site. Subsequently, the ATI pool of courseware developers from its network of training centers will undergo a hands-on training on the new e-Learning software where new courses will be developed. They will be capacitated in instructional design and packaging of new or updated courses using Articulate Storyline 2®. The training for the first batch of courseware developers was held last November 8-14, 2015 in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
